The University Dog by CPI™

The University Dog by CPIOver the last two years we have seen an increase in parents purchasing protection dogs for their children as the go off to school.  Three issues always seem paramount: Will the dog be trustworthy? Will the dog really respond off-leash like on our videos? Will they really protect when needed? Of course are answers are yes, yes and yes!

We’ve developed a specific training program for “The University Dog by CPI ™ ”. It is based on our “Secure” exercise where on command your dog runs to your side, turns on, positions himself or herself between you and the potential threat. And does so regardless of whether you walk forward, backwards or sideways. All off-leash without needing so much as to hold their leash or collar. You focus on getting to the safest place possible while your dog makes sure you’re protected in the process. You can see this exercise in most of our videos.

The University Dog by CPI ™ takes it one step further! On command your son or daughter’s dog is trained to turn around and walk backwards in order to watch behind them for potential threats!! Their dog is not “turned-on” aggressively like in our “Secure” exercise. He or she is aware of everything going on behind your son or daughter, alerts him or her to someone approaching suddenly and is prepared to defend if necessary.

This new exercise can be used when approaching a car, returning to a dorm or simply going from building to building. When combined with service dog status it provides security twenty-four hours a day.

Signs Of The Times – Part II

Changes within Canine Protection International (CPI) As a result of the economy, recent public instability (public demonstrations, flash mobs, Occupy Wall Street, etc.) and overall uncertainty, the demand for protection dogs continues to increase. In turn the higher caliber dogs within our Elite Family and Estate Protection Dog program have been in the greatest demand….

Signs Of The Times – Part I

What has become an extremely fragile economy seems to fluctuate between recovery and recession. Confidence in the recovery is undermined at every turn. The jobless rate stabilized this month at 9.1 percent, unthinkable just a few years ago. Gains and losses are driven by extraordinary news of global instability. Our own government has waited until…

Home Invasion – Cheshire Connecticut (NY Times Article)

The well publicized home invasion that took place in July of 2007 in Cheshire Connecticut returned to courts for the prosecution of accomplice Joshua Komisarjevsky. An article today in the New York Times goes over the history for anyone unfamiliar with the home invasion. Two questions that become relevant from a security standpoint is how…

An Inside Look at Deliveries (as Lead Delivery Trainer)

Ian 4 Blog

Being the lead delivery trainer I can appreciate the trust you put in our hands, placing an adult protection dog in your home, and with your children.

As with every part of the delivery process I want the acclimation of your new dog to your children to be seamless. Just a natural progression of little steps that both start and end with yourself, spouse, children as well as your new dog being completely comfortable.

That being said, our dogs make the process very easy as they are loving and extremely tolerant of any thing a child could send there way.

Many people ask the questions “How could this powerful protection dog be so loving and gentle?” Also, “What if the training becomes undone, could they starting attacking people?” I understand the questions and the concerns. If you haven’t been around our dogs it’s almost hard not to ask these questions. After all what is most people’s frame of reference when it comes to a protection dog?

Home Invasions – Part 2

Secure from Home Invasion

Highly trained protection dogs, such as ours, provide multiple layers of protection that no other single system can provide. The first is a deterrent. Criminals consistently do not back down when faced with a gun. After all, tough guys get shot. That same person will not only back down from a protection dog but can do so without loosing face. No one wants to be attacked by a dog. The appearance of our dogs, as well as the way they carry themselves, clearly communicates this is not your typical dog. The message is clear: wrong home, wrong family!

As a deterrent, the dog must first be seen or heard. If the dog is not seen or heard, chances are the dog will see or hear them. A protection dog provides detection, your personal “early warning system”. Whether this be in your home during the night or in your garage as you get out of your vehicle, seconds matter.

Let’s say the threat is escalated and a home invasion is taking place. Your dog is with you on one side of your home. The entry takes place on the other side. The most essential action to take is creating distance between you and the threat.

Home Invasions – Part I

Home Invasion

Canine Protection International (CPI) owes a great deal of its success to referrals from professionals in the executive protection field. This exposure to the security industry has not only provided an education, but also opportunities. I am a partner in a security company specializing in maritime security. I will soon launch another company called Homestead Security Solutions. This experience has provided a greater understanding of where a protection dog fits into securing home and family.

Clearly economic instability is leading to a rise in crime, especially home invasions. An article in USA Today stated, “If you come home and find your home burglarized, it’s pretty much an insurance issue. But if they break into your house while you’re there and take you captive, it’s something you never recover from.” Let’s face it, most of us live in safe communities where it feels like we are far from the risk of harm. The reality is we are usually the most vulnerable in our homes. We are comfortable, off guard and cornered.

The first step to securing home and family is to understand the specific risks, and potential responses.
