Protection Dogs – An Overview

(CPI Training For Your Dog and Fully Trained Protection Dogs For Sale)

Description

While we do sell our own fully trained protection dogs, we are first and foremost a dog training center. As a dog training center we offer training for dogs regardless of breed, age (8 weeks +) or where the dog was purchased. As a result you can have the same level of performance with the dog you presently own as CPI clients do who have purchased their fully-trained dogs from us. Of course your dog will need to have the necessary natural ability to do so.

Of course, regardless of protection capability, every dog may enter our Obedience Complete by CPI program.

Functional Results

In a field where most training centers seem to focus on dog sports (Schutzhund, French Ring, Belgian Ring, KNPV), or use a sport type approach to training, our focus is very pragmatic: functional results in everyday life. Your everyday life.

We define these functional results as simply the ability for a dog to respond with a command said once in a normal tone, and regardless of the situation. That includes obedience, protection and manners.

Training Programs

We offer a number of training programs ranging from our Obedience Complete by CPI program through very advanced levels of protection. These all inclusive protection programs include Protection Dog Basics I, Protection Dog Basics II, Protection Dog Basics III, Executive Protection Dog program, Elite Family Guardian program as well as our most popular Elite Family and Estate Protection Dog program. If you choose to have your dog trained in any program other than our most advanced program (Elite Family and Estate Protection Dog program), and later decide you want to further your dog’s training, your cost to do so is only the difference between the previous program your dog completed and the new program your dog is entering.

CPI Training For Your Dog

Again, we accept any dog into our training program regardless of where the dog was purchased. The only criteria is that a dog have the natural ability required for the program. We determine your dog's natural ability through a comprehensive evaluation.

We will be happy to arrange for your dog to be evaluated for our training programs. For clients outside of New England, New York and New Jersey we will be happy to arrange for your pet’s transportation to us.

For clients who bring their dogs to us there is no charge for the evaluation. If your dog is to stay with us during the evaluation, and require airport pick-up there is a charge of $500.00.

In recognizing the personal relationship that often develops between an owner and their dog's breeder, trainer or importer the training provided by CPI is kept confidential to avoid unnecessary conflict.

CPI Fully Trained Dogs For Sale

We offer our own fully trained dogs for sale. All of our dogs are imported from Europe. We offer a range in the caliber of dogs (natural ability) we purchase for our training programs. The one common criteria that all share is that each dog is one we would enjoy owning ourselves.

The dogs we purchase to sell as fully-trained are all placed in either our Executive Protection Program or our Elite Family and Estate Protection Dog program. The price range for these fully trained dogs starts at $25,000.00.

For clients interested in protection dogs trained in one of our other programs (Protection Dog Basics I, II or III), or wish to invest less then $25,000.00, we will be happy to select a dog in Europe who will meet your specific needs. Imports are available starting at $8,500.00, and training programs (Obedience Complete by CPI) starting at $3,500.00. We do offer some of these candidates at the bottom of our Fully Trained Dogs For Sale page under "Imports".

Which Breed?

For the first time protection dog owner the first question is usually which breed. For most of our clients it is usually either the German Shepherd or the Belgian Malinois. Within each breed there are differences in appearance, including color and size, which for some may also be a consideration. Other breeds such as the Rottweiler, Doberman, Giant Schnauzer, Boxer and Dutch Shepherd are also available.

Which Caliber of Dog?

The second choice is caliber of dog. The higher the caliber of dog, the greater the dog's ability (if taught the appropriate skills) to manage a threatening situation. This can be likened to the difference in ability of an entry level soldier in the military versus someone selected for U. S. Special Forces or U. S. Navy S.E.A.L.S. From an investment standpoint, the greater the natural ability of the dog, the higher the price.

Which Training Program?

The desire to protect, and a dog's natural ability alone are not enough. Viable protection requires specific skills, and these skill sets require training. Again, much the same as candidates for the military.

Our decision in placing a dog within a specific program is usually associated with their level of ability. The greater the level of ability the more advanced the training program. Again, we offer fully trained dogs “in-stock” trained as Executive Protection Dogs and as Elite Family and Estate Protection Dogs.

These two programs are about options. These options include innovative solutions to problems inherent with utilizing a protection dog during a robbery, home invasion or assault. They make all the difference should your dog need to be called upon to protect. For additional information as to the training please see Training Methods.

Additional information on each program is available on the program's individual page. Also, please visit our comparison of each training program at our Training Program Comparison page.

Selecting the Ideal Dog

We are not alone in our ability to purchase outstanding dogs in Europe. What is unique is as a result of our size, our standing within our field and an affluent clientele we are able to consistently purchase the finest dogs Europe has to offer. We are able to do so in prices ranges few others are able to purchase dogs in.

Our clients need neither sport dogs or police dogs. As dogs sales in Europe fall into two categories, police dogs and sport dog, our criteria for our clientele is fairly unique. That unique understanding, and the dogs we choose as a result, makes a significant difference.

Even though most of our clients are very similar in their needs, and our dogs are selected for that clientele, the subtleties that make up each dog's personality and makeup can be quite different. It is as a result of understanding these nuances, and our client's specific needs, and preferences, that we can make an ideal match between dog and owner.

We recommend as the first step in this process of understanding your specific needs that we have an initial conversation followed by filling out our questionnaire. Typically this is followed by a follow-up call as we begin to understand what the ideal dog would be for you.

A quicker way to move through this process is to first fill out the questionnaire. We will then go over it and schedule a time to speak that is convenient for you.
